<p><b><i>Exact location, viewing instructions and further details can be found in the brochure below.</i></b></p><p><b>Lofty hemlock trees dominate the canopy of this woodland which boasts fantastic amenity and conservation potential. </b></p><p>Tucked away in a secluded corner of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, Coed y Telyn is home to a wealth of majestic and towering hemlock trees which add a north American twist to the surrounding wild Welsh landscape.</p><p>On a warm summer’s day, dappled sunlight filters through the canopy illuminating the swathes of foxglove, hemp agrimony, ferns and mosses inhabiting the rides and open areas. Elsewhere, regeneration of other tree species is good, with some rowan, oak, ash and hazel thriving amongst the hemlock.</p><p>Woodland visitors include roe deer, fox, badger, as well as red kites, buzzard, sparrowhawk and tawny owl. The industrious knocking of a great spotted woodpecker reverberated through the woodland on my last visit.</p><p>Coed y Telyn is accessed directly off the road via a decent stone track, suitable for year-round use. From there, a soft track extends deeper into the woodland and could provide an ideal spot to stack timber in harvesting operations, or even site a mobile saw mill for timber processing.</p><p>This woodland offers ample amenity and leisure opportunities – think summer campouts with family and friends in the heart of the beautiful Brecon Beacons. There is also the opportunity for the enthusiastic small-scale forester to provision a good supply of quality timber for the future here.</p><p><b>Our Forester's Thoughts</b></p><p>"I would carry out some selective felling, opening up some wider glades and clearings. This would allow me to supplement the healthy natural regeneration of trees here with some additional planting.</p><p>By diversifying the age class and structure of the woodland I would in turn create a healthier and more diverse landscape that’s more resistant to climate change, pests and disease. There is also the opportunity to produce a legacy of quality timber to support a lifetime of building projects with the potential to generate a modest income if managed proactively.</p><p>I would use the timber from the glade creation to build a seating area and perhaps an outdoor kitchen for entertaining guests!"</p><p>Please remember some management operations require approval and/or a licence.</p>
