Coed Gwy is just coming to a point where the next decades of growth can be shaped. With a range of ages, the mix of broadleaf and coniferous trees are well spaced. This enables the opportunity to move through the woodland easily, despite it being steep in places.

Benefitting from a track right round the perimeter, the ability to move into the woodland from any point gives many opportunities. Whilst the access for vehicles is simple on to hardstanding, and pedestrian access to the lower slope is already in place, we recommend wandering through the woodland to see all it has to offer.

Spacing of re-gen Birch could be achieved with a handsaw if wanted and a small copse of coniferous trees is to the west, and provides a denser area of protected woodland.

Trees

Coed Gwy is a mix of naturally regenerated trees with some specific planting such as Sessile Oak and some coniferous. The natural regeneration is a mix of Rowan, Silver Birch, Willow amongst others. Its a relatively new woodland, but there are some mature coniferous trees in the woodland.

Wildlife

Within the woodland there is evidence of badgers and other small burrowing animals. As the woodland has been left lone for a while there are numerous tracks.

Whilst working there we've seen many birds, red kites, buzzards, and smaller birds like sparrows. The woodlands also has some lovely inquisitive robins, who have followed us as we've worked the land.

Features

We've put a small bench in a clearing that is accessible on foot. The best views though, in our opinion, come from the very southern boundary - a little bit away from the road, but with clear views out to the west and north, this is the place to watch the sun drop.

Whilst it may feel intimidating initially, the slope can easily be "beaten" by contouring across the hill from either side.

Access, tracks and footpaths

The large parking area immediately inside the gate is solid - very unusual for a woodland to have such solid hard-standing. The northern boundary track is the remains of the old highway and can be easily driven in a normal car.

The remaining track around the outside was maintained/updated in 2022 - and gives opportunity (in a 4WD) to drive right round the woodland perimeter.

There are simple ways through the woodland between the trees, and it would be simple to make more formal paths to get to your favourite bits.

Rights and covenants

No covenant on this woodland

As is the case for all our woodlands, the purchaser will be asked to enter into a covenant which serves to protect the peace and quiet of the woodland.

Activities

Llangurig is close to many exciting activities, from the rally centre at Sweet Lamb Complex to the intricate superb network of cycle trails. Two trails, the Trans-Cambrian Way and Route 8 pass nearby.

There is Red Kite Feeding Centre at Gigrin Farm, and the Elan Valley is a world Dark Skies area, astro photographers and star gazers travel from afar to see the huge night sky.

Clywedog Reservoir offers Fly fishing and sailing.

Local area and history

Llangurig is the home of a 15th Century Church, named after Saint Curig. The manor house Clochfaen Hall was designed by William Arthur Smith Benson, a designer of the Arts and Crafts movement.

It's a small village that includes accommodation, such as The Old Vicarage and Clochfaen. It also has The Village Tea Rooms and the Black Lion Hotel.

Nearby by, and worth visiting is the stunning Elan Valley
