Four Queen Anne-style homes are the centerpiece of the postcard-like Funston Avenue neighborhood. Built in 1885 for officers and their families, they remain the most eye-catching feature of what is the oldest intact streetscape in San Francisco. Beautifully restored but not frozen in time, these five-bedroom houses have retained their intricately detailed exteriors and welcoming wrap-around porches while gaining updated kitchens and baths.The military families who once lived here enjoyed enviable proximity to the exciting goings-on at the Presidio Officers' Club. The same is true today with the revival of the club, the centerpiece of the Presidio's Main Post and the cultural hub of the park. Funston Avenue is also a short walk to the wildlife and open spaces of El Poln Spring, and near Lovers' Lane, the Presidio's oldest trail, which makes a beeline to the shops and restaurants of Pacific Heights.
