Exact location, viewing instructions and further details can be found in the brochure below.

A stunning canal side woodland, secluded, tranquil and teeming with wildlife.

Reedmere Wood presents an opportunity to own a piece of rich, vibrant and diverse woodland, with direct access to the extensive, historic Worcester and Birmingham canal network. The charming town of Redditch and market town of Bromsgrove are within easy reach and Birmingham is just 40 minutes to the north. For travels further afar, the wood can be conveniently accessed via the M5 or M42.

Composed of ash, beech and sycamore trees above, accompanied by the hazel, field maple, elm, hawthorn and holly below, the result is a stunning landscape. The woodland floor is carpeted with bugle wood avens, celandine and dog’s mercury adding delightful pops of colour after the winter months. Reedmere hosts woodpecker, treecreeper and nuthatch flying above, whilst muntjac and roe deer, badger and foxes inhabit the ground below.

A stoned track provides great access, along several areas to pull in off the track into the woodland. The real jewel in the crown of this woodland is the access to the canal, which would especially suit someone with their own narrowboat. Although not currently registered as a permanent mooring, the woodland does allow mooring of a narrowboat for continuous cruisers, and the new owner could seek to register this as an ‘end of garden mooring’ (subject to approval by the Canal and Rivers Trust).

As well as the significant leisure opportunities here, there is also the opportunity to study the ecology of the woodland and embark on conservation projects to augment and enhance an already diverse environment. There is also the potential for ongoing sustainable forestry here, and the pole-stage trees could be thinned to provide a quality source of firewood for the log burner or create a number of angling hides and benches for fishing your very own section the canal (subject to obtaining an Environment Agency Rod Licence).

Our Forester'sThoughts

Harry says...

"In terms of managing Reedmere Wood, there is an opportunity to introduce a ‘coppice with standards’ rotation system. This is where the wood is split into smaller sub compartments, or ‘coppice coupe’, which are then managed on a rotational system, by clearing one small section each year and supplementing the natural regeneration with some enrichment planting of mostly hazel.

The staggered regrowth across the wood will diversify the levels of light and create an array of habitats, attracting a wider range of species. This would also help to maximise the amount of timber I could produce, allowing me to maintain the larger ‘standards’ trees dominating the canopy whilst producing a constant supply of coppice to produce crafts such as fencing, hurdles, and even charcoal.

I could use the timber to build a seating area next to the canal, even an outdoor kitchen and fishing stand for spending many summer evenings next to the water with family and friends enjoying the peaceful surrounding looking out for kingfishers and maybe even otters if you get lucky!"

Please remember some management operations require approval and/or a licence.
