<p>Vron Wood is a west-facing upland oak woodland (300 – 350m elevation) characteristic of the area, with hazel coppice, alder, birch and a little holly and other broadleaves. The trees are well spaced, and ground vegetation is a mixture of grassland and bracken, with virtually no evidence of bramble, making it exceptionally easy to walk around. Views out of the wood are over the surrounding valley of the Afon Tefeidiad / River Teme to the west and south.<br/></p><p>It is classified as Ancient & Semi-Natural woodland, and is on the “Priority Habitat – Deciduous Woodland” Inventory.<br/></p><p><b>Access</b>: the access to the woodland gate is over a right of way (at all times, for all purposes, with or without vehicles) along a track, currently only suitable for a four-wheel drive vehicle, through two fields There is a continuation of the track running through the middle of the wood.<br/></p><p><b>Wildlife</b>: In the spring, the wood is alive with the sound of birdlife. While taking photographs for the sales particulars a variety of species were seen or heard. including Treecreeper, Nuthatch, Wren, Blackbird, Robin, Buzzard, Crows, a variety of tits, Jackdaw, and Great Spotted Woodpecker. Shropshire Wildlife Trust have recorded the plant life that occurs within the wood. A long list includes Devil's-bit Scabious, Wood anemone, Marsh-marigold, Meadowsweet, St John's Wort, Yellow Pimpernel, Dog-violet, Betony, Celandine, to name just a few. A full list is available on request<br/></p><p><b>Boundaries</b>: the boundaries of Vron Wood are all well fenced from adjoining farmland and woodland. All fences except the one on the southern boundary are owned by the woodland owner.<br/></p><p><b>National Landscape:</b> The wood lies within the Shropshire Hills National Landscape (or Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as it used to be called).<br/></p><p><b>Sporting rights:</b> Included.<br/></p><p><b>Mineral rights:</b> Included.<br/></p><p><b>Right of water supply</b>: the owner of Vron Wood has a right (subject to certain restrictions) to build a retaining tank and install a pipe to take a water supply from a spring 500 metres to the north of the wood, but this right has not been exercised.<br/></p><p><b>Public access: </b>there are no public footpaths or public access of any kind in, or near, the wood. The neighbouring land owner has a right over ther track through the middle of Vron Wood, but it is a right they do not seem to exercise.<br/></p><p><b>Local area:</b> the wood is in a particularly quiet rural area, 11 miles south-east of Newtown, 9 miles north-west of Knighton, and 17 miles west of Craven Arms.</p><p><b>Photographs</b>: were taken in February and April 2026.</p><p><b>VIEWING: You are welcome to visit this wood by yourself. Please take care when viewing as the great outdoors can contain unexpected hazards and woodlands are no exception.<br/></b></p><p><br/></p><p><b>DIRECTIONS</b></p><p><b><u>From the north via Newtown or Newtown bypass<br/></u></b></p><p>Take the A483 signposted Dolfor and Llandrindod Wells.<br/></p><p>Follow this road for three and a half miles from the Newtown bypass.<br/></p><p>On a right hand bend, take a left turn (straight on) signposted Tref-y-Clawdd / Knighton B4355<br/></p><p>Follow this road for 7 miles, to the village of Felindre.<br/></p><p>Continue on the B4355 through Felindre. Just over a mile after leaving Felindre, turn left, signposted Anchor – 5 miles. Just after the bridge over the river, keep left, signposted Anchor, then immediately fork right (unsignposted).<br/></p><p>The entrance to the right of way to the wood is on the right hand side after a quarter of a mile, opposite a stand of conifers and a double gate into a field (see Photo 18).<br/></p><p><b><u>From Knighton<br/></u></b></p><p>Leave the town centre on Broad Street, which then becomes West Street.<br/></p><p>Take a right turn, signposted Beguildy and Y Drenewydd / Newtown B4355<br/></p><p>Follow this road for 8 miles, passing through Beguildy<br/></p><p>100 yards after leaving Beguildy, turn right, signposted Anchor – 5 miles<br/></p><p>Just after the bridge over the river, keep left, signposted Anchor, then immediately fork right (unsignposted).<br/></p><p>The entrance to the right of way to the wood is on the right hand side after a quarter of a mile, opposite a stand of conifers and a double gate into a field (see Photo 18).<br/></p><p><b><u>Access to the wood<br/></u></b></p><p>The right of way to the wood runs downhill to the stream, then back up the other side to a gate.
