<p><b><i>Exact location, viewing instructions and further details can be found in the brochure below.</i></b></p><p><b>Secluded waterside broadleaves and grassy glades within a larger gated woodland.</b></p><p>Meandering Copse occupies a secluded corner of a larger wooded area known as Hyons Wood, two miles south-west of Prudhoe. </p><p> Much of the wood is on level ground adjacent to the meandering flow of Stanley Burn (a tributary of the Tyne). Here there are grassy glades with scattered willow, ash and lime trees. Further from the water’s edge, the ground folds into gentle slopes and ridges supporting full canopy oaks intermingled with birch, willow and ash, below which are pockets of woody shrubs like hazel, and holly.</p><p>Most of the wood is easily accessed on foot thanks to a scattering of paths and an open woodland floor largely free of entangling vegetation. Bluebells populate the glades next to the stream along with drifts of woodland associates like dog’s mercury. </p><p>Woodland birds are plentiful (and vocal in season). Songsters, woodpeckers and buzzards all frequent the woodland canopy, while below there is plenty of evidence of larger occupants including fox, badger and roe deer.</p><p><b>Our Forester's Thoughts</b></p><p>Alastair says...<br/></p><p>"Everything I do here would be geared towards conserving this woodland haven.<br/></p><p>Sylviculturally I’d consider removing the occasional streamside tree to increase dappled sun and shade to the water. I’d also fell the scattered ash stems (which are sadly diseased as throughout Britain). Aspen, black poplar and cherry all come to mind as possible replacements. I would also contain the holly thickets which are prone to expansion.<br/></p><p>A few remote cameras to catch some of the local wildlife would be fascinating, and sharing their territories with the occasional night under canvas by the stream certainly appeals."<br/></p><p>Please remember some management operations require approval and/or a licence</p><p></p>
